A Journey of Heritage, Art, and Mediterranean Spirit
Cristian Zuzunaga, a London-based artist and designer with roots in Barcelona, brings a unique cultural blend to his work. Born to a Spanish mother and Peruvian father, Cristian’s multicultural background has instilled in him a profound curiosity and adventurous spirit. Initially drawn to biology, he was captivated by how a microscope reveals the smallest elements of an object. Though he eventually left science behind, the fascination with magnifying and breaking down patterns into infinitesimal components remains at the core of his creative practice today. His acclaimed designs have led to collaborations with iconic brands like Wallpaper Magazine, Tate Gallery, Kvadrat, Camper, Fabergé, Ligne Roset, and Nanimarquina. The “Inca” pattern, inspired by his Peruvian heritage, reflects this dedication to family and cultural roots.
This emphasis on heritage aligns with the vision behind Arrels Barcelona, a brand founded by Javier Llaudet. The name Arrels, meaning “roots” in Catalan, is a tribute to Llaudet’s grandparents and their textile legacy, as well as to the Mediterranean lifestyle he cherishes. Arrels Barcelona speaks to cultural hedonists—those who embrace beauty, creativity, and joy in art, craft, and music under the sun. For those who explore the world with a sense of wonder, each piece from Arrels Barcelona becomes a symbol of love, heritage, and an appreciation for life’s vibrant experiences.
