Looking for Clarity began as an investigation into darkness and light. Working directly into a zinc plate, I scratched its surface diagonally, gradually moving from dense black towards open white, seeking the full tonal range between the two.

Three states were printed as the plate changed. The marks move from the darkness of the lower field towards an increasingly open upper surface, recording different stages of the same irreversible process.

The work became a search for clarity through material: darkness gradually giving way to light through repetition, pressure and removal.
