Quadrat developed from research begun in Shanghai in 2006 and from my RCA dissertation on supermodernity, the contemporary city and the relationship between the individual and the urban environment.

The collection translated this research onto the body. Images, colour and fragments of the city were broken into modular fields, treating the pixel as both structure and information. Working with an early-generation Mimaki digital textile printer alongside sublimation and screen printing allowed these digital images to move directly into silk, cotton, synthetic and blended fabrics.

Developed with Peter Maxwell Smith as my final project at the Royal College of Art in 2007, Quadrat brought together photography, digital image, textile, print and fashion. It marks an early convergence of ideas that would continue through the work: the pixel, the grid, fragmentation, repetition and the city as a constantly changing system.
